Seun Kuti is the youngest son of Nigeria’s most beloved musician and most acerbic social critic, Fela Kuti , who died in 1997. As lead vocalist and saxophonist, Seun now fronts his father's former band, the 20-piece, Afrobeat powerhouse known as Egypt 80

Description

The late Fela Anikulapo Kuti left a massive musical legacy when he died in 1997. Among the treasures he left the world was a new genre, Afro-beat, and his son, musician Seun Kuti. Seun now leads Fela’s former band, Egypt 80, and keeps the Nigerian Afro-beat flame alive. Seun describes the music he makes as flowers that grow out of the filth and garbage that is the city of Lagos, Nigeria. His lyrics tell stories of loss and corruption, violence and sadness, but they also point to a future in Africa that will be built on the hard work and determination of people working at the grass roots.
